Vijay Singh

There has been no more improbable success story in golf that than of Vijay Singh, whose career began in his native Fiji Islands and has spanned the globe, culminating in two major championships and, in 2003, the No. 1 position on the PGA Tour money list with $7,573,907. He also had the lowest actual scoring average of 69.11 strokes per round in 2003 and was first in nine of the PGA Tour’s statistical categories, including 18 top-10 finishes in 27 tournaments.

He has risen to No. 2 on the Office World Golf Ranking and, at age 42, is in the prime of his career. Vijay, whose name means ‘victory” in Hindi and who traces his ancestors to India, has won on four continents – Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America – and has triumphed in 16 countries from Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Korea to Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Zimbabwe and South Africa, and on to Sweden, Italy, Spain, Germany, France and England.

He arrived on the PGA Tour in the United States in 1993 and won in his first year while gaining Rookie of the year honors.

He now has 29 PGA Tour victories, along with 22 international triumphs, for a total of 51 while amassing over $49.3 million in worldwide career earnings.

Known for his work ethic and long hours on the practice range, Singh has been a model of consistency and his string of 53 events without missing the cut was the fifth longest in PGA Tour history. He has been a member of the International Team for all six of the Presidents Cup competitions.
