MIKE WEIR LOOKS FORWARD TO WEEK PLAYING IN CANADA AFTER SUCCESSFUL BRITISH OPEN

...First Up, The Canadian Open, Then Making the Connection Legends of Golf Event in Prince Edward Island

CHARLOTTETOWN, Prince Edward Island (July 23, 2007) - Fresh off his Tie for 8th place finish at the British Open, Mike Weir can now look forward to a full week of playing in front of Canadian fans, first at the Canadian Open, then at the second edition of the Making the Connection Legends of Golf at Prince Edward Island’s famous The Links at Crowbush Cove at Rodd Crowbush Golf and Beach Resort taking place one week today.

Weir will be joined by World Golf Hall of Famer, and fellow former Masters Champion, Vijay Singh in the event that celebrates some of golf’s greatest players and the rivalries that they share. The first edition of the event, held last June at Dundarave Golf Course at The Rodd Brudenell River Resort, featured what many consider to be the greatest rivalry the game has seen, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, playing before 7,200 spectators over the two-day event.

“I’ve been really looking forward to this week with the chance to play the Canadian Open and then the Making the Connection Legends of Golf event,” said Mike Weir. “I am excited about the chance to return to Prince Edward Island where I have great memories of playing at Crowbush Cove. I have been telling Vijay how spectacular the Island and its golf both are and I know he’s looking forward to it as well.”

Both Weir and Singh will be teeing it up on Thursday in pursuit of the 2007 Canadian Open title, an event that witnessed a famous duel between the two at Glen Abbey in 2004. Weir was in a position to become the first Canadian in more than 50 years to win the Canadian Open title on Sunday, before Singh, who was ranked the number one player in the world at the time, overcame him in a playoff to take the championship. Singh talked at the time about how Weir was the only player he didn’t want to beat in that tournament, knowing how important it was to the popular Canadian player.

Mike Weir has been working with new swing coaches on making changes to his game in 2007, and his play the last month has started to show that the new approach is paying off. He has strung together back-to-back Top 10 finishes in his last two starts (Tie for 8th at the AT&T National and Tie for 8th at last week’s British Open) to go along with a Tie for 20th place at the always difficult U.S. Open last month. Weir is looking forward to carrying that momentum over to this week’s Canadian Open in his bid to make the 2007 President’s Cup team.

Tickets for the Making the Connection Legends of Golf are $60 (plus tax) with a special 50 per cent discount for junior fans under the age of 16. Tickets will go on sale in early May through Ticketweb, with more ticket information becoming available soon at www.legendsofgolfpei.com.
