VIJAY SINGH TOPS CANADIAN MIKE WEIR TO CAPTURE MAKING THE CONNECTION LEGENDS OF GOLF TITLE IN PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND ...Legends Thrill Large Gallery at The Links at Crowbush Cove With World-Class Golf Display CHARLOTTETOWN, Prince Edward Island (July 30, 2007) - Just one day after narrowly missing out on his second Canadian Open title, Vijay Singh traveled to Prince Edward Island to match up against Mike Weir in the second edition of the Making the Connection Legends of Golf. He ensured that he would leave Canada with at least one victory when he defeated Weir by four strokes at The Links at Crowbush Cove at Rodd Crowbush Golf and Beach Resort in the second edition of the popular golf event. More than 5,700 golf fans, including just over 4,200 spectators for the featured match between Singh and Weir, took in the two-day event, which also featured a Fan Fest on Sunday highlighted by an exhibition by World Long Drive Champion Jason Zuback and the Making the Connection Celebrity Shoot Out. “I always enjoy the chance to play in Canada and with Mike,” said Singh. “This was my first time to Prince Edward Island and I really enjoyed the trip and the golf course. Before we came, Mike had told me what a spectacular place PEI is, and what great golf courses the Island has. I was glad to be able to see them for myself and I would like to be able to return for a vacation one day.” The match between Weir and Singh, who are already considered ‘legends of the game’ while still active stars on the PGA Tour, followed up last year’s inaugural Making the Connection Legends of Golf that featured Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, two of the biggest names in the game. “I was excited to be invited to participate in the Making the Connection Legends of Golf with Vijay and the chance to return to Prince Edward Island,” said Weir. “It’s been almost ten years since I was here last and I’ll definitely make sure it isn’t another ten years before I come back. We had a great time here and would like to thank the fans for their support. They were terrific.” As one of Canada’s premier golf destinations, Prince Edward Island plays official host to this professional golf event, which is a partnership between IMG Canada, Tourism PEI and Making the Connection. Making the Connection is a program dedicated to the ongoing education of Canadians about the health risks of high cholesterol, and to encouraging Canadians to take action to control high cholesterol in order to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) is the designated charity for the Making the Connection Legends of Golf, as well as a partner of the Making the Connection program. The partnership also includes the Canadian Lipid Nurse Network, the Canadian Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation, Diabetes Québec, and Pfizer Canada Inc.
